Ouchless Pediatric Emergency Care

Osceola Regional Medical Center has instituted a new Ouch-less Pediatric Department that literally takes the fear out of the experience for children up to age 18– and their parents. The Ouchless Peds ER features specialty trained nurses in pediatric emergency care and pediatric advanced life support. Medical care is specifically tailored to the age of each child. After all, kids aren’t just small adults – they think, feel and experience things in their own unique manner.

The main goal s to minimize pain for children experiencing any invasive procedure such as shots, stitches, etc. A variety of numbing agents will be used prior to any of these procedures. Diversionary techniques are also key. Interactive play abounds in this Emergency Department, which serves as a great diversion to the pain and fear each child may be experiencing. Various toys, books, television, guided imagery and relaxation techniques all factor into an experience which is virtually fear and pain free.

  • Separate pediatric area
  • Separate pediatric treatment room
  • Pediatric waiting area equipped with children’s programming and books
  • Nurses specialized in the care of children
  • “Ouch-less” environment

Broselow System for Acute Pediatric Administration of Drugs in the ED

The hospital’s emergency department has installed the Broselow System to ensure the proper dosing and administration of drugs to children. Pediatric dosing can be difficult, especially in emergency situations, and the Broselow System allows medical professionals to instantly access proper dosing, improve the speed and accuracy in acute preparation and administration of drugs, reduce medical errors and standardizes pediatric dosing so that we can provide our young patients with high quality emergency care, safely.
